ADOPTIONS
Venice Cat Coalition (VCC) cats have an advantage; they are all in loving foster homes. There is a huge difference in demeanor between a cat that has been secluded in a cage at a shelter and a cat that has been socialized in a foster home. While our cats are in their foster home, they are treated as a pet in that family. The cat is in a positive home environment as a family pet, so it is already use to being in a home and a part of a family.
Most of our foster homes have at least one of the following: other cats, dogs, or children (some have all 3). We sometimes will place a cat into a different foster home to see how it does with new things. For example: a cat that has been in a foster home with adults and other cats only. After some time, while the cat is waiting to be adopted, we may place him or her in a different foster home that has dogs and/or children. Then we can evaluate how this cat is with dogs or children. Sometimes we find that the cat is NOT okay with something and then we know the cat should not be adopted by someone who has this something in their home (ie. a cat that is NOT at all ok with dogs should not be adopted by someone who has dogs). Most of the time though, the cat adjusts quickly when brought to a foster home with new things. The cat eventually becomes comfortable with dogs and or children. Now, this cat is ready to be adopted to a home that has just about anything!
WHAT IF THE CAT DOESN"T END UP WORKING FOR ME?
After you adopt a cat, you will have 10 calendar days to return the cat for a full refund. You may also try another cat you were considering; however, this will only be with approval from the director.
At any time after you adopt, if something happens that prevents you from keeping the cat, we want you to contact us. We will attempt to put the cat into a foster home until it is adopted. However, we may be unable to accept a returned cat after a long period of ownership. If so, you are responsible for rehoming the cat yourself to a safe new owner. PLEASE do not bring an animal to a shelter! Any animal you surrender has the best chance of survival if given to a no-kill animal rescue organization.
We look forward to a great adoption experience with you!
